Shift: Grocery Store Shopping
We have more power for good health than what we've been told. And it starts with the way we shop.
🤔 I went to the grocery store the other day to pick up some ingredients for dinner and some household supplies... noticed something that I wanted to share about mindset, paradigm shift and empowerment.
We are made to think by society and manufacturers that we need to buy special miracle products to be able to manage our weight. The photo below shows the signage for a whole section of an aisle in the pharmacy dept. of my local grocery store dedicated to products that make us believe that we need these items to help us with our weight.
That if we want to lose weight, marketing campaigns, fancy packaging and bottom line targets make us believe that these products will do that for us. That we NEED them and their products. Or else we will struggle with weight forever. False.
Weight loss and optimal health are not found in magic milkshake meal replacements or by popping pills or finding the just-right supplement. This is called a "reductionist" view of health. We need to properly nourish our bodies with real, nutrient-dense foods. The closer we eat to the ground, the healthier our whole body is. This is a "wholistic" view of health.
This is a different mindset than what common culture and big manufacturers want us to have.
✅ New mindset: you CAN take charge of your health by nourishing your body well and not spending hard-earned cash on empty promises in miracle products. This is a shift that is different than what we've been led to adopt by commercials and ads that sell products and headlines that sell magazines.
✅ Paradigm shift: For weight loss and good health, we should shop for dinner primarily in the produce aisle, not the pharmacy aisle.
This takes the power out of the hands of factories and into your hands and kitchen.
💪 YOU are in charge of your health: The power is in your hands, not the manufacturer's hands. There's not as much money to be made in broccoli and lettuce. But there are millions to be made in manufactured goods with pretty packaging and clever names. 💸
I help women with creating a healthy lifestyle that serves them enjoyably, not pushing a restrictive diet that requires willpower that rarely wins. We need a lifestyle that serves us not a quick fix that doesn't last. Do we need pills and medicine for health? ...absolutely, when it's necessary. But as a first line of defense for long-term weight management we need nutrient-dense foods that satisfy.
The next time you go to the grocery store, take a look at the store a little differently, and start dinner with what you find in the produce department. Your body will thank you.
Yours In Health,
Melissa
